the belcourt biscuit boogie

Tomorrow night! Join us for a dance party at the Belcourt Theatre, one of many events that are in support of this years nD Festival.

Your $25 ticket ($20 for Belcourt members) will get you Bang Candy jello shots, cocktails, Yazoo beer and homemade biscuits… On top of that, Ben Swank and William Tyler, both who wear many hats in our fair city, will deejay the evening, which is a treat in itself. That’s less than you’d spend on a night out and it goes toward your favorite indie film house!

Get your ticket right here, or you may also purchase one at the door. When else are you gonna get to shake it on the stage of the theatre and not get shushed or escorted out?

The party starts around 10 pm. See you there!

new jewelry

We’ve got new accessories in the shop from Marisa Haskell, Pamela Love and RTH. Some beautiful vintage turquoise mixed in there, too! Please call the store to order – (615) 292-5005.

our choice: olive and sinclair

We love a good chocolate bar. Olive and Sinclair is slow-roasted in small batches right here in Nashville. Not only is it beautifully packaged, but it tastes delicious to boot. With flavors like Cinnamon Chili, Buttermilk White and Salt & Pepper, your tastebuds will forever thank you.

It’s important for Barista Parlor’s Andy Mumma to know where everything in his shop is made… staff uniforms included. From i+w denim to custom-designed Emil Erwin aprons to caps – and occasional bow ties – by Otis James.

Matt and I are chairing this hilarious event for Belcourt Theatre’s nD Festival to directly support their education and engagement programs… and we would love your help! If you feel inclined, please send over your favorite video clips (à la lady falling out of a grape vat / Honey Boo Boo Child). They can be incredibly obscure or terribly popular, we just want to curate the best of the best for this lovely cause. The event will be hosted by the incomparable Chris Crofton and clips will be projected at Third Man‘s state-of-the-art venue. Please join us and get your tickets here!

party time

We had a great time at the Belcourt nD Fest Preview Party last week! Thanks to all of the amazing vendors who set up in the backyard with us for a fun flea market-style event.

… and this was just the beginning! There will be three full days of events September 28-30 celebrating indie film, fashion and music in Nashville. The funds raised go directly to support the Belcourt Theatre‘s education and engagement programs. Find out more information and get your tickets here.

Special thanks to Burger UP and Edley’s BBQ for providing the delicious food, and the lovely Shelly Colvin for serenading us in the shop. And to all the wonderful artists including: Abby White/Prairie GR, Acorn + Archer, Billy Reid, Buckshot Sonny’s, Debe Dohrer, Dustie Smith, Emil Erwin, Haven, A. Micah Smith, Otis James and Lucy Pop Salon.

old vs. new

When we were kids we all had dreams of shiny new things, but as I have gotten older, my love of shiny has now turned to a love for rusty.  My love for new has turned to a love for old.  Patina is the new shine for me.  There is just something about old and original that has recently captivated me like never before. Long live the rust!

This summer I made my first trip out to Yosemite. Since then, I’ve been watching this video regularly, wondering why we choose to shelter ourselves so heavily from the beautiful outdoors. Nothing in any city I’ve been to compares to the peace you can find in the wilderness. This video is an intense reminder of the awe-inspiring beauty outside our cities and works well as a 4-minute vacation, without having to leave your desk.

The video comes from an ongoing collaborative project by Sheldon Neill and Colin Delehanty. You can see more from the project here.
