a love letter to i+w

How do you say farewell to your family?

My time at imogene + willie has been so much more than a job, and this team of people have become like brothers and sisters deep down in my heart. What Matt and Carrie have built is truly special, and has meant so much to me both personally and professionally. I can’t help but get a little mushy on my last day… it feels as if I’m leaving home to head off to college. I’ve spent my final week trying to document the moments and memories that I want to take with me. And a few of the things I’ll miss the most:

Matt’s voice when he talks to the doggies. Judge Juji! And his endless support, belief and encouragement in me.

Carrie’s loving open arms. And nurturing, sweet soul.

Jonathan’s countless emails full of ideas and inspirations. And his kick in my ass when I need it most.

Jessica’s perfect envious hair.

Erin’s family home in Muscle Shoals. And sweet memories that were made there.

Joe and our shared love of Justin Timberlake.

Brian and that one time he told me my face looked like Christie Brinkley’s.

Ian’s attention and care for detail.

Kristen’s infectious smile. And those curls!

John Christian’s badass handlebar stache. And his delightful smell.

Alex’s big bear hugs.

Jay always giving me a hard time. But only because he loves me… right, Jay?

Destiny’s perfect green salsa.

Debbie’s heart for the team. And her ability to brighten my day.

Juan teaching me Spanish. Muchas gracias amigo!

Nestor’s crazy jokes and famous ballroom dance moves.

Gloria’s peaceful, kind spirit.

Allen’s enthusiastic and warm greeting. Every. single. day.

Mercedes’ contagious laugh.

Patricia’s quiet and gentle demeanor.

Lale when she rests her head in my hand.

Juju’s love bites.

To my sweet team (and best coworkers in the entire world)—thank you for your crazy love and generous support, for carrying me through the most difficult times, and for being my biggest cheerleaders as I step out into this new journey. I love you all.

See you again soon,

Elise

sxsw shindig

Billy Reid throws the best parties… Lots of fun, familiar faces spotted in this video from his recent SXSW Shindig in Austin, Texas.

our choice: leagues

The debut record from LEAGUES has been on repeat around our office since its January release. Made up of our friends Thad Cockrell, Jeremy Lutito and Tyler Burkum, LEAGUES are amazing musicians who also have critically-acclaimed careers of their own. And it doesn’t hurt that they are quite dashing, too.

The infectious You Belong Here is a combination of feel-good pop with a couple introspective tunes thrown in the mix. I’ve been fortunate to see them live, and let me just say, these guys are the real deal. Hands were clapping, feet tapping, bodies moving—a sight not often seen in this music town. They are currently on the road through April, and if you have the chance to see them in your city… run, don’t walk.

Love,

Elise

another feather

When designing our first imogene + willie necklace, we knew we wanted to work with someone who shared similar vision, inspirations and passions as i+w. It was a joy to work with Asheville-based artist Hannah Ferrara of Another Feather. Learn more in this week’s Our Voice.

file under: scars

“What would happen if we were to open an old family album and discover that each photo, organized with maniacal care and love, had been torn and burned with permanent scars? In spite of the devastating violence, indeed something remains. The photographs, though mangled, wounded and partly incinerated, resist.”

the makers project

We are big fans of Jennifer Causey’s photography, as well as The Makers photo project, so it’s an honor to be featured on the site (and in such good company!). Check out the photos, interview and more over at The Makers Project.

the roundup: unionmade – san francisco, ca

What can I possibly say about Todd Barket that hasn’t already been covered? The amount of editorial (and deservedly so) on the mighty Unionmade and Mill Mercantile is a reflection of impeccable taste. In a sea of the cliff-noted-everything-for-everybody-kitchensink that is currenty the landscape, their product mix is a fine example of curated restraint.

Much can be said about the stores development, the owners’ storied past, their deep retail pedigree, the engaged & attentive staff… but I feel only a few really know-know about Todd Barket, himself… what little he reveals… I, myself, having only known him a better part of 2 years can say he really DOES care. About everything. He’s the kinda guy that will go to a market week with 30 appointments deep, knowing he can only allow himself to write 15 of the lines. He respects the process. He appreciates the machine. He cares about the people involved in the industry each step of the way. He allows each player to do their job, on both sides of the table… THAT, my friends, is the only understanding that really matters.
